Nestled in the Flint Hills of Kansas for more than 20 years, Grandma Hoerner’s Foods has been providing natural and organic food to customers across the country and the globe.

Grandma Hoerner’s Foods was founded in 1986 in California after Duane McCoy re-created recipes used by his grandmother Mabel Hoerner, the company’s namesake. After starting the company in California, Duane and his wife, Regina, returned to Kansas in 1993.

“Grandma Hoerner grew up on a farm in Manhattan, Kansas in the late 1800’s.” says Regina McCoy, vice president and co-owner of Grandma Hoerner Foods. “Her family’s farm included an apple orchard, which apples went into the first batch of Big Slice apples.”

The two have owned and operated the current business near Alma, Kansas, since 2000. “Being close to our roots and our heritage shows what kind of company we are,” Regina says.

The products made by Grandma Hoerner’s range from preserves, fruit butters and pie fillings to barbecue sauces, salsa and coffee. Grandma Hoerner’s is also known its famous Big Slice kettle cooked apples. Customers can get Grandma Hoerner’s Big Slice Apple Pouches at Target and also on the From the Land of Kansas Marketplace at https://shop.fromthelandofkansas.com/all-products/big-slice-apple-pouches.

Grandma Hoerner’s has grown nationally and has products in more than 6,000 stores. “Running a small business that is growing is hard, but we stick to our mission – we deliver products that exceed customers’ expectations” stated Regina. Grandma Hoerner’s continues to reach global levels with all its products. Many other retail stores also carry Grandma Hoerner’s products, such as The Fresh Markets, Sprouts, Hy-Vee and Whole Foods.

To keep up with modern marketing and consumers, Regina and the rest of the team have been adding new looks to the Grandma Hoerner’s brand. “We revamped everything, with a new logo and a new updated look,” says Regina. “We felt like the quality inside needed to be dressed up with the packaging on the outside to really convey to our consumer that this is a healthy product.”

As Grandma Hoerner’s Foods looks forward the future, Regina says the company’s goals and outlook are bright. “We are very proud to bring our products to other areas of the country, and our vision is to go global with these amazing products,” she says.

Grandma Hoerner’s has been a member of From the Land of Kansas since February 2015. They saw that joining the program was an opportunity to expand, not only their brand, but their business objectives.
