Boot Hill Distillery
When father and son, Roger and Hayes Kelman purchased the
historic Dodge City Municipal Building in 2014, their area of expertise
included farming. As a fifth generation farmer, Hayes has always looked for
original means of vertical integration and new uses for the grain he and his
team grows. Now, Boot Hill Distillery exclusively uses grain grown on Kelman
Farms, 50 miles west of the Distillery, to produce its spirits.
After
harvest, the wheat, corn, and other grains are delivered to the Distillery
where we mill, mash, ferment, and distill on site in our historic building. We
then transport aged spirits to our rickhouse to rest.
The
building's location atop the original Boot Hill Cemetery weaves past to
present, and today, a different type of spirit inhabits Boot Hill.
Tour Times are 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm every Friday

We strive to provide high quality produce by implementing naturally growing practices like pest control, weed management, minimal tilling, no dig and composting our garden scraps. We employ several types of gardening techniques that include Square Foot and Mittleider gardening plus Premaculture, Hukelkultur and Back to Eden methods. Glenn, Jennifer, Isaac, and Tatum Brunkow produce lambs on land homesteaded by Glenn’s family in the 1890s. Jennifer's family has raised sheep for several generations and their ewe flock can only be described as an overgrown 4-H project. Brunkow Family Lamb started with three 4-H ewes and has grown much larger in the last ten years. In addition to the family flock, Isaac has his own flock of Southdown ewes that started with a Starter Flock Loan through the Kansas Sheep Association. The Brunkows pride themselves in combining their passion for raising quality livestock with their love for the Flint Hills. Firefly Farm
Firefly Farm is a five-acre, vintage farmstead located just one mile east of Wichita city limits. A family farm site for over 100 years, the land has been in the Garcia family since it was purchased by Bob and Violet in 1950. It is a second-generation farm now with their son, Ron, and his wife, Leah, as stewards. The land has seen many iterations and eventful times over the years – it has been home to a small working sheep and soybean farm, a world-class motorcycle shop, and now a specialty crop farm focusing on resource conservation and regenerative practices. It has endured wildfires and a tornado and has proven to be resilient! Since its launch in 2015, Firefly Farm has hosted numerous critically acclaimed farm-to-table dinners, a farmers’ book club, a highly popular farmers’ market, weddings, and an array of private parties and events. Most importantly though, has been the growing program. Firefly Farm has focused on heirloom vegetables, specifically, heirloom tomatoes on which it has built its reputation. We are proud to grow and sell produce that is known for its flavor.
Grateful to be a place beloved by many, Firefly Farm invites you to buy our produce and attend our events.

Free Day Popcorn grow their farm fresh, non-GMO popcorn on their small family farm in America's Heartland - along the Kansas/Nebraska border. Unlike commercial processors who may store popcorn for up 18 months before it reaches the package, Free Day Popcorn only sell the current year's harvest. They guarantee that it's the freshest popcorn you can buy: they print the harvest date on each bag. Fresher popcorn means the popcorn pops more consistently. There are fewer unpopped kernels resulting in less waste. Fresh popcorn is light and crisp and has fewer hulls. In addition to popcorn kernels, Free Day Popcorn also sell ears of popcorn called Popping Ears. You can pop your popcorn in the microwave directly on the ear it grew! It's a fun novelty item for kids and adults alike!
Just because you don't live near the farm doesn't mean you shouldn't be able to enjoy farm fresh Free Day Popcorn any time you want. Shop online: www.freedaypopcorn.com

We currently manage over 60 beehives, and all are within a 15-mile radius of Manhattan, KS. From April through October our honey is sold at a self-service stand at the end of our drive at 7680 Junietta Rd. As the weather turns cold, the honey is moved to the honey kitchen beside our home where it can be kept warm, so it won't crystalize and is still self-service and works off the honor system. Sizes range from 2oz to 5 gallons and comes in both plastic and glass containers. If you have a group that would like to have us come and do a presentation on honeybees, please call! For more information call Rick at 785-410-1728.

We don't consider our story to be particularly amazing. We do believe that God led us to this place. Our story started with a desire to see our children grow up to be upright, God fearing men and women. One of the ways we thought we could help make that happen was to have our own business in which they could work alongside us. We started praying for an opportunity and quite a while later a friend told us about a bakery that was for sale. We had prayed for a business that was well established and one that children could help with. This opportunity seemed to be a good fit. We are excited about the future possibilities but also realize that our main priority right now is helping our children mature.

Hoganville Family Farms
There's a reason why family recipes live on. Our family's style of sauerkraut has survived moves over three continents and thrived into the modern day. Our grandmothers cultivated rows of plentiful cabbage in the family garden, sliced it, and packed it all by hand. Despite modern inventions, not much has changed. We still select the ripest and freshest cabbage, slice it in our kitchen, and pack it with our own two hands. The spirit of our family lives on through food and now it can be passed on to you. Enjoy!

Inland Ocean Vineyards
Many wineries import grapes, frozen juice, or finished wine from other regions. That is not the case here! All of the wine made and sold at Inland Ocean Vineyards is from the grapes grown on the property.
We started making wine many years ago now, and were frustrated that the most important component was not available here...GRAPES! There were none to be had locally! We didn’t want grapes transported days on a truck from California, or juice from vineyards that freeze and later sell the stuff they don’t want. No, we wanted fresh, cool, grapes picked early in the morning and processed right away - not days, weeks, or months later.
Inland Ocean Vineyards was planted in April of 2018. It was planted in 3 phases so that the oldest grape plants are now 4 years old in 2022. After the 3-year planting phase completion, we now have 1400 vines. The vineyard is on 2 acres, yielded 12,000 lbs. of grapes, which is about 3,400 bottles of wine. With the maturation of the late plantings, we are hoping for 15,000 lbs. of grapes - or about 3,750 bottles.

JET Produce
Jacob E. Thomas, founder and owner of JET Produce And Meats, grew up on his parents’ farm outside Leavenworth in Northeast Kansas. At the age of 14 he asked his parents if he could plant a garden, so they plowed a portion of the yard and he began pursuing an interest in horticulture. Nine years later Jacob graduated from Iowa State University with degrees in Horticulture and Animal Science. During summer break from college in 2012, Jacob founded JET Produce with the goal of producing high quality fruits and vegetables for Leavenworth and the surrounding area.
In 2014 JET Produce expanded into the meat market by offering high quality, USDA inspected, grain-finished Angus beef raised on his family’s farm. Cage-free chickens were also added to the farm to offer fresh eggs to customers. Newfound success brought about a new name, and in 2015 the name of the farm was changed from JET Produce to JET Produce And Meats to reflect the expansion into the meat market. 2015 also saw the introduction of lamb products to sales offerings. Lambs are raised on the family farm from sheep used to control weeds around the farm.
From the beginning, vegetables have been grown using environmentally friendly and sustainable practices that ensure only the freshest and best tasting product for consumers. As part of our goal to provide high quality fruits and vegetables to the residents of Leavenworth and the surrounding area, JET Produce and Meats routinely donates unsold produce to church food pantries in the community to help families in need.

Marian Vavra Wheat Art
About Marian Vavra Wheat Art:
Marian SyWassink Vavra gathers and artistically works with wheat. During the beginning of June every year, Marian cuts the first harvest from the bountiful Kansas wheat fields, doing so a week to ten days before the wheat is ready for the farmers to combine. She uses a hand-held sickle to cut heirloom Turkey Red and Larned wheat varieties along with the newest production varieties from her garden and area farms. Sundried, cleaned and sorted, the golden wheat is ready to use. From this wheat she creates traditional and contemporary straw art, specializing in sacred religious symbols. Marian creates harvest symbols, love tokens, house blessings, ornaments, jewelry, crosses, and much more. She is available for commissioned artwork, group presentations and hands-on projects. And, she works with families to design memorial art from the last wheat harvests of their loved ones. In 2016, Marian published her book Celebrating the Cross: The Sanctuary Crosses of Marian SyWassink Vavra. Woven into this colorful, photograph-filled book are the stories and inspiration for the design of nine masterpiece crosses. It is also a comprehensive how-to, technique filled book with instructions and illustrations so others can recreate her art and make their own.

One Egg Catering Kitchen
Our catering offerings are designed to fit many needs – impromptu small gatherings, well-planned group events both large and small, as well as varied styles of service from simple buffets to upscale custom culinary dining experiences. Our food menu centers around Kansas’ rich history of farming and ranching with a midwestern spin on the West Coast’s oldest ranching culture cuisine – a Santa Maria style feast. Inspired by our own families’ fresh-cut wood campfires set in the majestic Flint Hills, we quickly felt a connection to the traditions of West Coast ranching when the local ranches would host Spanish-style feasts for the vaqueros, family and friends. Dating back to the mid-1800s, the traditional Santa Maria style feast includes meat seasoned with salt, pepper and garlic that is grilled over an oak wood fire and paired with slow-cooked pinquito beans, fresh green salad and bread dipped in melted butter.
One Egg sources majority of their ingredients from local Kansas producers.

Patrick Dugan appeared in our lives in the fall of 2007 with a keen eye for location and a desire to put a coffee shop in downtown Garden City worthy of his Irish lineage. He wasn't interested in a harshly lit place for harried humans to dash in and out for coffee. Nope, Patrick was thinking more along the lines of his favorite pub back home with darker woodwork, rich green walls and a much more laid-back style. Coffee should be savored, not gulped down.
So he, Doug and Pat began to think about putting the coffee house in the historic Warren Building, formerly the Warren Hotel, a landmark in downtown Garden City. The Paraclete Group was in just the right spot, with the basics already in place: superior natural light, genuine terrazzo floors, a gigantic fireplace with the original woodwork and excellent retail neighbors. All he had to do was convince them to move the computer store north into the other half and leave the Main Street corner to him.
After eight months of nights and weekends, working around contractors and trying to pretend that the front door of three businesses wasn't a big mess, it all came together at the end of May 2008. The interior was exactly the way it had been imagined. The equipment was installed and tested. An excellent staff was found and the folks at PT's Coffee in Topeka turned a bunch of novices into professional baristas. The coffee shop officially opened its doors the first week of June, 2008.
Did it all work out? Come by and see for yourself. Sightings of Patrick Dugan in the store are rare, but we know he is always near by and nothing makes him happier than to hear someone say "this is the best coffee I have ever had." We followed his directions, took his advice not to compromise on anything and are proud to bear his name on the door: Patrick Dugan's Coffee House - better than you are used to, nothing less than you deserve.

Pendleton's Country Market
John Pendleton's dad Albert started farming in the Kansas River Valley over 40 years ago on land that once produced mostly potatoes and peas for the local Kaw Valley Cannery that Albert's dad managed. Being a city boy, Albert always wanted to be a farmer, and after WWII, came home to follow that dream. Albert and his wife Lorita, along with their three sons, Jim, John, and Scott, farmed what most call "regular farm crops" in the valley. They raised corn, wheat, soybeans, and milo. They also developed a small feedlot, and fed about 500 head of cattle each year. In the early 1980's (during what is known as "the farm crisis") the Pendleton's, along with many farmers looked for alternative crops to help with the income on the farm. The couple planted their first 1/2 acre of asparagus in 1980, and now the farm grows a wide variety of vegetables, bedding plants, and cut flowers. Through the last 30 years, John and Karen raised their three children on the farm that has kept everyone busy on a much more diversified operation. Today, with their children grown, John and Karen continue the market farm, witch occasional help from Liz, Margaret, and Will. During the summer, all sorts of vegetables are harvested from the field, and fresh produce and flowers are taken to Lawrence's Farmer's Market every Saturday throughout the summer. Then the garden comes into full color with over 3 acres of flowers. Most are sold at market or used in Karen's custom floral business. In the fall of the year, dried flowers are the theme. A Holiday open house and several workshops keep the family busy into the holidays.

Prothe's Pecans
In 1879, my great-grandfather bought our 80-acre farm. Native pecan trees were growing here at the time. My grandfather, father, wife and I farmed the land through the years doing little with the pecan trees. We purchased the farm in 1960 from my aunts. In 1987, as I was clearing our 20 acre pasture, we noticed many young pecan trees growing along side some brush. I decided to leave some and go to a grafting school being held in Paola. I had not heard of grafting trees but it sounded like a good idea. We attended the course and left with the scion wood to make the grafts. I began grafting trees and grafted more of the trees each year. We planted another 40 acres to pecans the last few years which I have grafted to the improved varieties as well. We have a shaker that will clamp to the tree trunk and shake the nuts to the ground, a harvester to gather the nuts, a cleaner to separate the nuts from the trash, and several crackers to crack them. Whole or cracked pecans and halves, and black walnut meats are sold at the farm. We have the big Pawnee that people ask for when they call us and also the Kanza variety. They are the best pecans growing on our farm. DELICIOUS!! Custom cracking pecans is available.
We are open year-round for all your pecan and walnut needs- just give us a call 913-849-3358 or 913-449-1719. Thanks and enjoy our pecans!!

Our Story:
Our family became aware of gluten intolerances four years ago when our 11 year old daughter became seriously ill. Our doctor was baffled. My daughter was constantly absent from school, dizzy, vomiting, could not keep her balance, and experienced daily migraines.
One day, while I waited at a doctor's appointment, I glanced down at a medical journal and saw an article about eating gluten-free. I decided to read it. The article was an answer to my prayers and I questioned the doctor about the possibilities and she agreed to let us try a gluten-free diet until my daughter's next appointment. In a matter of days, my daughter's condition improved.
However, we found it frustrating trying to figure out which foods to avoid. I knew nothing of cross-contamination or reading labels. I figured if it wasn't a major bread or wheat item, we were okay. But, I was wrong and my daughter's health was set back many times from trial and error.
I began educating myself and developing recipes for my daughter, who is also a huge foodie. Her eyes would light up when I re-introduced her to gluten-free versions of chocolate cupcakes, cookies, and lasagna. Soon, my son and I were living gluten-free as well since we both exhibited many gluten intolerance symptoms.
This continued for another three years when we discovered my daughter was also allergic to corn. After delving myself deeper into recipe and food research I realized that there is a definite need for food products that cater to those with food intolerances. We have traveled all over the country taste-testing products from different gluten-free bakeries with major disappointment. We figured if our family had this problem, we couldn't be alone. And, as I sat and tried to choke down a tasteless, dry, and crumbly gluten-free cupcake in Boston - I knew my husband and I could offer a more tastier, moister, and sweeter cupcake. And so... Marie Antoinette's Gluten-Free Bake Shoppe was born!
