Those who attended the 2015 Annual Meeting heard me share the importance maximizing your site for Search Engine Optimization (SEO) to help generate search results. While SEO will continue to be key, Google has made a major change to the way their search functions work that will put mobile-friendly websites before others Google is not the only search engine, but it is where a large majority of consumers search for information.

Google made this announcement on Tuesday, April 21, 2015. This change is in response to the ever increasing number of users searching online via a mobile device, i.e. phones, tablets and even the recently launched Apple watch.

So, what does this mean? If your website is mobile-friendly, you could be at an advantage. Not sure if your website is mobile friendly? Google has a mobile-friendly test site where you can enter your website URL. The test will analyze and report back on the mobile-friendliness of your website.

To research further, check out Google’s Webmaster Guidelines. You can also check out Google’s Webmaster Tools for tips on improving the search ability on your site. Finally, we always recommend you review your site analytics to evaluate the content on your site, identify how people are finding the site and how much time visitors are spending, what pages they are viewing and more. If your site is built on a platform like Wordpress or Square Space, you have built in analytics. Google Analytics is free and is a great stand-alone program or additional program to the base information your site will provide.

We hope you find this information helpful. We will continue to pass along any tips we find as we wade through all the changes.
