The Pickle Cottage

From what started out as what Trent and Rebecca Stimpert nicknamed “Operation Save The Farm,” The Pickle Cottage became so much more than just a small venture to save their sixth-generation hobby farm in Bucklin, Kansas.

The Pickle Cottage takes pride in being a family effort. Along with their two daughters, Trent and Rebecca process their products in their own facilities from planting all the way to packaging and delivering to customers. Trent oversees production while Rebecca works on washing, canning, and prepping the canned goods for sale. The hands-on aspect of their production lifestyle is something their whole family takes pride in.

“We wanted to bring an old-fashioned way of life to the public,” Trent explains. Many times, they get asked if they just package the pickled items, when in reality they do it all by hand right on their property.

Production begins as early as February and March as plants begin to sprout inside of their greenhouse. After the seeds sprout, they are planted in April and May. The Stimperts work hard to grow their products organically. Once the produce is picked and sorted, it's time for them to be washed and packaged. The Pickle Cottage prioritizes freshness, so when you are enjoying their products, know that they were picked and packaged within the same day, often within an hour! All of this is completed within the Stimperts’ 1,000-square-foot cannery. “It’s amazing what you can do in such a small area,” says Trent.

As you can tell, there is so much more that goes into each Pickle Cottage jar than just produce and spices. You can find their products at multiple farmers’ market locations and craft fairs, such as in Dodge City and at Kansas Grown markets in Wichita. Some of their bestselling products include sweet pickled beets, pickled cucumbers and assorted veggies, and dilly green tomatoes.
