Are you a business owner looking to expand your outreach beyond the U.S.? If you’re wanting to take your business to the next level, the Kansas Department of Agriculture has just the connection for you.

Suzanne Ryan-Numrich serves as International Trade Director for the Kansas Department of Agriculture. In her role, she assists with trade leads, and connects foreign buyers with Kansas producers with products of interest. Her favorite thing about her position is seeing a company’s success on an international level.

Numrich is an alumna of Kansas State University and received her undergraduate degree in Animal Sciences and Industry as well as her master’s degree in meat science. Not only did she have the opportunity to study abroad multiple times, but she also worked overseas for the USDA in Beijing and the U.S. Meat Export Federation in Mexico City. These experiences were what led her to her career at the KDA.

For business owners who are looking to market their products in other countries, Numrich will help connect those individuals with the KDA’s Food Export Midwest liaison along with the necessary resources, such as the exporter help line, informational seminars, market research and more.

Numrich mentioned that while the process can sometimes be challenging due to shipping logistics and differing regulations, the results are so much greater. The process allows for individuals to become more diverse and even form long lasting personal relationships.

Her biggest advice? “Always ask questions, educate yourself and others, but never stop learning.”

Kansas exported to nearly 90 countries in 2020. Mexico, Japan, and South Korea were the top-ranking countries, with 60% of these exports going to those countries.
