Spice It Up: Homemade BBQ Sauce

October 28, 2022 | Member features

Are you looking for a delicious way to incorporate Kansas-made food into your next meal? At Spice it Up in Bonner Springs you can find Brenda and Anna cooking away to make some of Kansas’ best homemade BBQ sauces and rubs. Spice It Up is one of our From the Land of Kansas members that started during the COVID-19 pandemic. Starting Spice It Up was both challenging and rewarding during the pandemic. Encouraged by Anna, friends and family Brenda knew she wanted to see her homemade sauces on the store shelves and wanted to share her hot and spicy sauces with others.

This year Spice It Up entered their mild, hot and extra hot BBQ sauces in the American Royal World Series of Barbecue Sauce Contest presented by BBQ Spot. They were awarded 3rd place for both their mild and hot sauces. Along with attending competitions, Spice It Up can be found as a vendor at many events across Kansas from fairs and festivals to local farmers’ markets. The best part of attending these events is letting customers discover their favorite sauces through free tastings before making a purchase.

“Once it is on someone's tongue it is like instant gratification,” said Brenda. While attending events Brenda and Anna love being able to see people’s reactions when trying their BBQ sauces for the first time and hearing their comments.

Spice It Up can be found in 18 different cities across Kansas and Missouri. You can also shop for their sauces and rubs online at https://shop.fromthelandofkansas.com/spice-it-up-llc.

Follow Spice It Up on Facebook to stay updated on the next event they will be at and to be the first to know when they release new products and to see their upcoming business rebranding.
