Grass Roots Farms: Cultivating Community

Since planting its roots in 2020, Grass Roots Farms has since then flourished from a garden hub to a beautiful seasonal pumpkin patch that draws families and friends from near and far. Just three miles west of Atwood, Kansas, this small but mighty business is more than just a farm — it’s a vibrant space that focuses on creating connections to the earth, community, and to family.
Founded in the fall of 2024, Grass Roots Farms Pumpkin Patch opened their gates to the community. Owned and operated by knowledgeable, Austin and passionate, Jo Argabright, the farm quickly became a seasonal favorite. “I love fall and the traditions it brings, and being able to share that with our community feels really special,” Jo shares. Now, they are gearing up for season two of the patch on September 28th. Each week during the season, Grass Roots brings special events such as the Smokin’ At The Patch BBQ Contest or Wine Walk & Cider Fest.
Grass Roots Farms Pumpkin Patch offers something for all ages. Families get to wander through the pick-your-own pumpkin patch, get lost in the corn maze, or enjoy a hayrack ride. For adults — there are seasonal treats, fresh-farm meals, and a marketplace that is great for browsing. They also offer weekly events that anyone can participate in. These activities include a haunted corn maze, lively bonfire and bingo nights, and even a pumpkin spice pop-up featuring local vendors.
At the heart of the pumpkin patch, it’s not just about picking pumpkins — it’s about watching families grow in connection. “You’ll see kids running, parents laughing, and friends slowing down to make memories,” Jo says. It’s moments like these that show how community can come together and celebrate the rural lifestyle.
For Jo, that’s what it is all about. “My dream is to support a community that my children want to come home to,” says Jo. Jo also shared their kids have been a huge part of the pumpkin patch adventure and it has taught them important life skills, creativity, and community spirit.
Open Saturdays and Sundays, September to November, the Grass Roots Farm mission is to help you, and your family celebrate the richness and heart of rural living by nurturing authentic connections among people, land, and community. The activities and environment at the Pumpkin Patch really reflect the Argenbright’s motto, “cultivating community, connection, and country living.”
