Rooted in Kansas: Connecting Farms to Communities
What began in 2015 with Kaden and Emily Roush’s passion for agriculture has grown into a thriving Kansas business called R Family Farms. Located in Lebanon, Kansas, near the geographical center of the United States, the farm combines traditional farming practices with modern technology to raise high-quality Berkshire hogs. Their mission is simple: raise animals with care, respect the land, and bring wholesome, flavorful meats directly to consumers while building trust through farm-to-table transparency.
R Family Farms specializes in Berkshire pork, often called the “Wagyu of pork” because of its rich marbling, tenderness, and melt-in-your-mouth flavor. As a farrow-to-finish operation, they oversee every stage of production, from birth to market weight, ensuring careful attention to quality and animal care. Kaden and Emily keep their process as local as possible while supporting the community and delivering fresh, flavorful pork to their customers.
“The main thing that we like to stand on is our transparency. There are not a lot of places that stand on true transparency, so we take pride in that,” says Emily.
Beyond the farm, they are passionate about helping consumers understand where their food comes from and supporting local businesses. This passion inspired them to open Main Street Mercantile in downtown Lebanon, a storefront featuring locally-made jams, baked goods, pantry staples, and Kansas-raised meats. The store gives customers an opportunity to discover quality products while supporting the people and businesses that make their community special.
Building on this commitment to local agriculture, Kaden and Emily have launched a new venture called Territory Trading Co. This business connects surrounding meat producers with consumers, making it easier for people to access locally-raised meats and support Kansas farms.
“Not only does Territory Trading Co. have products that are grown on our farm, but there are other products such as buffalo,” says Emily.
Customers can conveniently shop online or visit the storefront in Lebanon to explore available products. Meat packages are shipped throughout the United States. By bringing multiple producers together, Territory Trading Co. helps strengthen local food networks and build meaningful relationships between farmers and the families they serve.
From raising Berkshire hogs at R Family Farms to connecting producers and consumers through Territory Trading Co., Kaden and Emily share a commitment to quality, transparency, and community. Their businesses reflect the belief that knowing where your food comes from matters. By keeping food production local and building trust between producers and consumers, they are helping bring people closer to their food, their farmers, and the communities that make it all possible.
“Territory Trading Company has allowed us to bring in more producers and more of our neighbors that are also raising high-quality proteins, and other local Kansas goods that can be sold alongside it,” says Kaden.
