Bow Creek Ranch: Quality from Pasture to Plate

Bow Creek Ranch is a fifth-generation, family-owned farm that prioritizes raising livestock with consideration for environmental impact and animal welfare. Doug and Stephanie David have owned the ranch eight miles south of Lenora, Kansas, since 2014. They specialize in farm-to-table yak and beef cattle, producing all-natural meat with no antibiotics or added hormones. “From day one, we care for the well-being of our animals, as well as the impact we leave on the environment,” says Stephanie.

In addition to meat production, Bow Creek Ranch grows its own natural feed, uses natural production methods, and sells registered Quarter Horses — specializing in barrel racing. Their diversified approach reflects both agricultural tradition and a commitment to quality animals across the operation.

“We started with a few yaks, and as the meat became more popular, we expanded the business,” says Stephanie. Now, the ranch maintains 150 breeding yaks, 150 commercial beef cows, and five sows.

They currently offer a wide variety of meat products, including yak, beef, pork, and bison. The ranch also offers prepared options, including beef burgers with an 85/15 lean-to-fat ratio and curated meat bundles.

“The demand for yak meat was growing and still is,” says Stephanie. Bow Creek Ranch encourages customers to ask questions and visit the ranch by appointment, reinforcing transparency and trust in their production.

Customers interested in raising livestock can purchase yak starter herds, while those looking for meal inspiration can find recipes on their website that highlight the flavor and versatility of their meats. Together, these offerings demonstrate their commitment to sustainability, education, and providing high-quality products to consumers nationwide. You can find them in a booth every Thursday evening at Lenora Farmers Market and at their online store.
