The Story Behind Madd House Hill

What started as a simple 4-H project with Nigerian Dwarf goats quickly grew into a thriving business producing a wide range of goat milk products. Tucked away in Paola, Kansas, Madd House Hill is a family-run operation centered around handcrafted goat milk soaps and everyday skincare essentials. Cynthia and John have embraced a true “goat-to-soap” approach, focusing on natural ingredients that are both simple and supportive of the body.
“I enjoy continuing to learn how different ingredients can support the body and skin and bringing that into the products we create,” says Cynthia. That curiosity and commitment to learning have played a key role in shaping their product line and overall mission.
The journey began in 2016 when their family brought goats home as part of their children’s involvement in 4-H. What started as a youth project soon became something much more meaningful in their everyday lives. As they discovered the simplicity and benefits of goat’s milk, along with how natural ingredients can work together to nourish the skin, Cynthia was inspired to begin creating products to share with others.
According to Cynthia, “The best part of what I do is the creative side — developing new products and creating essential oil blends to share with our customers.” That creativity extends beyond product development into building relationships within their community. She values the opportunity to connect with customers, educate them about their products, and share the story behind each item they create.
Madd House Hill offers a wide variety of products, including goat milk soaps, lotions, deodorants, insect repellent sticks, and bath soaks. As they approach their 10-year anniversary, they continue to expand their reach by showcasing products at local markets such as the Overland Park Farmers Market and the Lenexa Farmers Market.
At the heart of Madd House Hill is a strong commitment to transparency and intentional living. As Cynthia says, “What you put on your body matters just as much as what you put in it.” Their products reflect this belief, featuring natural scents and using ingredients without hidden chemicals. In addition, Madd House Hill continues to expand packaging options to be more eco-friendly, as Cynthia and John value the environmental footprint they are leaving with their business.
“We love to hear from customers who have experienced real relief or improvement in their skin after using our products,” says Cynthia, “Those conversations and results continue to reinforce the purpose behind what we do.”
