Kansas Originals - Over 35 years in business and still going strong!
Kansas Originals Market & Art Gallery was started over 35 years ago and is still run by co-founder, Marge Lawson. After realizing there was no place to sell the work of the local artists and craftsmen, a group of people from three counties banded together and formed The Post Rock Opportunities Foundation. Kansas Originals Market & Gallery was the result of their efforts. Artists, craftsmen and food producers from across Kansas joined the not-for-profit foundation to sell their work.
That need for change turned into a shop that has not only supported the Wilson community but provided local Kansas artists and producers a space to showcase their work and sell it to the general public.
While Kansas Originals was originally located just off of I-70, they more recently moved to a shop in the heart of downtown Wilson located at 2519 Avenue E.
“We sent people into Wilson all the time from out there and now we are drawing them into Wilson from being here. And I did experience that recently, so I feel confident in saying we are bringing people in, which is a plus,” said Lawson.
While their new location is smaller, Kansas Originals is still stuffing their store full of all kinds of Kansas made products from more than 150 members.
“They [customers] love our Kansas honey. They love our sunflower seed cookies. The food is probably one of the best sellers. Overall, they just love Kansas products, and we definitely have plenty of art customers can come in for,” said Lawson.
Outside of selling Kansas products, Kansas Originals is also very active in interacting with the Wilson community and celebrating the different events happening throughout the year.
“We have events all the time. And the biggest one that is coming up right now is our Father’s Day promotion where every father that comes in gets a free Kansas fishing lure. And then the Czech Festival is next. We will have a big event during the Czech Festival with guest artists and food samples,” said Lawson.
The Czech festival is on July 25th and will include other events like a parade, live music, food and appearance by the 2026 Kansas Czech queen. It is an event you will not want to miss!
Kansas Originals is open Monday through Saturday from 9am to 6pm and Sundays from 11am to 6pm.
